Okehampton

Great Torrington

Great Torrington is a friendly, welcoming town, set in the midst of rolling, unspoilt green countryside. An ancient settlement extraordinarily sited on an inland cliff top with steep drops down to the River Torridge below. This impressive situation offers spectacular views. In the very heart of Tarka Country, the wonderful landscape has remained practically unchanged since Henry Williamson wrote his classic novel “Tarka the Otter” in the 1920’s.

Hatherleigh

Hatherleigh is a place apart – an ancient Market Town of cob and thatch cottages situated in heart of rural Devon, near to Petrockstow.

Ruby Run Half Marathon. 2nd Sunday in June. Held between Hatherleigh and Holsworthy.

Hatherleigh Arts Festival. Mid July. Four days of contemporary arts, including theatre, concerts and art exhibitions, street theatre and workshops.

Hatherleigh Carnival. 2nd Saturday in November. The flaming tar barrels are pulled through the streets at 5am and 8:30pm and there are events and parties throughout the day.
